WINNER of the Silverio Cañada Memorial Prize at the GIJÓN BLACK WEEK 2025 for BEST FIRST CRIME NOVEL

Manuel Marlasca’s debut novel. Spain’s foremost crime reporter launches the Grupo X series.
The day Grupo X of the Madrid Judicial Police Brigade starts its week on duty, a suitcase containing the torso of a woman is found in an abandoned factory. Jimmy Valle, Luis Mangas, and Paula Vicente — agents from different generations — take on the case. They are joined by Julia Zaldívar, an inspector specialized in fighting human trafficking networks, who becomes crucial to solving the crime.

The team soon realizes they face a colossal challenge: a killer with resources to mislead the police into dead ends, a powerful conspiracy connected to other unresolved murders, and an investigation that will leave deep scars on everyone involved.

Only their teamwork and iron will can crack a case that goes far beyond the murder of the woman in the suitcase.

How deep does corruption run, and what price will be paid to root it out? Sometimes the police are our last hope for truth — but for them, it may cost their very souls.
