The Mice of God

In July 2011, the canons of Santiago de Compostela Cathedral realized the Codex Calixtinus was missing — a 12th-century illuminated manuscript considered the world’s first travel guide and a key reference for millions of pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. The theft of this priceless relic—shrouded in mystery, legends, and controversy from its origins to today—shook Spanish and international society. To recover the famous manuscript, an operation led by the Heritage Protection Brigade was launched. Investigators had to travel to Santiago to pursue the case.
