Where did that stench come from? What was the cause of the sepulchral silence surrounding number 594, Sauces Street, in Pioz? Following the trail of the unbearable odor, on September 17, 2016, the Civil Guard uncovered its source: the four corpses of a Brazilian family stuffed into six garbage bags. They had been dead for more than a month.

At first, everything seemed the work of a hitman, or a revenge more typical of a criminal organization such as the narco or the mafia. Nothing resembled crimes ever seen in Spain. Thus began the investigation into one of the most brutal murders in our history—a case that the police resolved masterfully.
Patrick Nogueira was nineteen when he murdered and dismembered his uncle and aunt, Marcos and Janaína, along with his cousins David and Carolina, aged one and three. A crime he broadcast live on social media to his best friend. Something unprecedented, truly a crime of the 21st century.
