From Seville, Irene Mala dreams, pulses, recreates, and plans her projects — which come to her while grocery shopping, taking her child to school, or battling 5 a.m. insomnia. Her characters aren’t conventionally pretty, but they’ve got something. Their aesthetic roughness, disillusionment, and bitterness move us — because Irene draws inspiration from life’s B-side.
She studied Fine Arts, where she learned much from her fellow students. She has participated in many solo and group exhibitions and has received several painting awards. Once a multidisciplinary artist, she decided to leave behind the Renaissance spirit and focus on her brushes. Her illustrations appear in magazines and various publications, and she also paints on large canvases. Irene writes, too, and one day she’ll return to singing flamenco.
