Liniers

Liniers (Buenos Aires, 1973) is the second name of Ricardo Siri. He began his career drawing for fanzines, and in 2001 published the first of his now-famous Macanudo strips in the newspaper La Nación, where he still contributes. His exhibitions of original artwork and paintings have traveled to many countries and cultural spaces. In 2013, his book The Big Wet Balloon was selected by Parents Magazine as the best children’s book of the year. That same year, Macanudo 4 was selected by the Angoulême International Comics Festival. In March 2014, Liniers illustrated a cover for the prestigious New Yorker magazine, where he has since contributed on multiple occasions. In 2018, he received the prestigious Eisner Award for Good Night, Planet.

Liniers has illustrated covers for The New Yorker, and his work has been compared to classics by Charles Schulz (Peanuts) and Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes). In 2020, he received the Bologna Children’s Book Fair Award in the “Best Early Reader Publication” category for Written and Drawn by Henrietta.

Reviews

Liniers has the gift of captivating readers, and the enviable talent of having created a universe he seems to enjoy as much as his readers enjoy exploring it. With irresistible charm, Macanudo has become a comics classic, right up there with Mafalda, The Far Side by Gary Larson, or The Simpsons.

All those colorful monsters, men with rabbit ears, and dreamy children live inside our heads. But only Liniers knows how to pull them out and draw them. Liniers is different—in the broadest and most surprising sense of the word.
Andreu Buenafuente
Liniers knows how to capture on paper all those magical, colorful thoughts living inside us. Sensitivity and fantasy live together in his brilliant world of absurdity, making us addicted to his art.
Agustina Guerrero
If Liniers weren’t outrageously brilliant, maybe I’d stand a chance of touching the sole of his shoe.
Juanjo Sáez
Liniers makes me jealous: his strips are tender, clever, funny, and unpredictable. On top of that, he draws beautifully and is (in person) utterly charming. It’s infuriating!
